Do It Yourself: Palm Springs Deco

Event Design and Description by Lollipop Events and Designs, Photography by Cary Pennington
Sunny days under the palms transform your party into a modern deco event! Bright colors of yellow, black, and white give your table a contemporary look that could work for any event, from a cocktail party to wedding reception! This bold table combines the glamorous illusions of mirrors, to the enchanting touch of the daisy flower balls, for an stimulating effect!

Table:
Start by simply throwing a standard white table cloth onto your table. Then, to add the bold stripes of this contemporary look, find a table runner that is brilliant with colors! We used black and white for this look, but get creative and use the colors that inspire you! To add the bright sunny Palm Springs feel to our décor, we added a small table runner made out of wrapping paper on top of the striped table runner, to give a pop and layering affect to this modern look. To line the paper, we glued on black velvet ribbon to finish off the look, giving it the appearance of a fabric table runner. Use any color of ribbon or size to create a different effect on the table.
Centerpieces:
Can you see me? Mirrors are the inspiration! From the mirror candlestick holders to the placemats, your guests will see themselves from every angle! Simply get three mirror candlesticks, one higher than the other two for a main centerpiece. To play with the illusions of the mirrors, top off the candlesticks with a ball of dainty daisies, incorporating the colors of yellow and white!
On each side of the mirror candlesticks add a playful modern ceramic animal, giving the table a bold geometric pattern look. From a horse to a geometric shape, be creative with this simplified ceramic form, to create look you want for your fete!
Next, add four square small black vases, two on each side of the ceramic shape, to integrate the bold modern look, while tying together the black stripes of the table runner. Simply add white roses into the vases, arranging the roses so that the buds are perfectly above the rim of the square vase, giving it a full bodied affect.
Table Settings:
Sophistication, elegance and glamour were the inspiration for this table setting! The mirror placemats are the epitome of elegance! You can find simple circle or square mirrors at your local craft store. We then placed classic patterned platinum-lined china onto the mirror to transform this table setting from ordinary to extraordinary! If you don’t have this china, simply use all-white fine dinnerware to give your table the same look.
For the napkins, simply find a pattern that offsets the bold strips of the black and white table runner to mix & match the patterns. We then used the same wrapping paper and velvet ribbon of the small table runner to make stylish bellybands, linking together the sunny bold yellow color of the deco look with the glitzy facade of the mirrors. You can place the napkins in any position you’d like! Play with them to see what fits your table! We positioned ours hanging down, springing color onto the white table cloth. To finish this table off, put your baking apron on! We had cupcakes made with yellow and black dots to add a sweet taste to our modern look!
Paper Candy:
For this super stylish table featuring bold colors, patterns and centerpieces we wanted to remind the guests the goal of the night… to have fun! We played with them a bit by making them find their own dinner! Menu items were hid in the word jumble for the hungry guests to find. Little yellow golf pencils could not have matched more perfectly! Please see our paper candy section to purchase semi-custom menus similar to these.

The Perfect Shoes for your Perfect Dress!
Mon, 07/13/2009 - 22:40 — themuse
Choosing Cinderella's slipper is so important to a beautiful bride. Heed these tips to avoid wearing too tight, too tall, and oh so boring shoes on your wedding day. With a little bit of planning and a touch of personality, your shoes can be the most comfortable, stylish shoes ever! You will walk on the clouds on your Wedding Day.
Rule Number One: Thy shoes shall be comfortable. Consider cute Ballet Slippers, Flats, Sandals and yes, dance shoes for burning up the dance floor!
The last thing a Beautiful Bride wants to see in her wedding album is the scrunched up, pinched look from wearing shoes that are painful. If your feet are happy, you will be radiant!
Rule Number Two: Thy shoes shall reflect thyself. If you are a Bridal Princess, strut it! Your shoes can be the sparkly center of your ensemble. Make sure you tell your Photographer. Darling photos of your twinkly two steppers matched with your gown is a must. Natch for your Country Covergirl, if it's in your genes to wear jeans, try cowboy boots under your skirt, it's a reflection of who you are!
Rule Number Three: Let there be color! Our ancestoral brides were bound by ettiquette rules which basically meant WHITE SHOES. You can follow that illustrious lineage and wear matching white or ivory shoes but if you have an itching to show your personality, consider matching your shoes to your wedding theme. Pink Peonies in your bouquet? Why not on your shoes? Aren't they Darling?
And then for the most Daring of Brides, match your pedicure to your bouquet or wedding colors and step out in a brilliant matching shade.
As you embark on this journey, remember to enjoy yourself. You are taking a big step! The shoes you choose will help you walk down the aisle to your love. You will be wearing these devine soles as you cross the threshold of Miss to Mrs. Don't you dare take that step without the perfect pair!
XOXO, the muse

Kelley Cakes is Giving Away a Wedding Cake in 2010!
Tue, 01/05/2010 - 17:54 — themuse
That's right... we're giving away a wedding cake! I'm in search of a couple out there with a fantastic love story to tell. Did you meet in a really "this never should have happened" way? What odds did your relationship overcome to get to the point of saying "I do"? Maybe you've got children from a previous relationship and (like me) you just find yourself wandering around in a daze over the realization that you've found someone who accepts you as a package deal? Whatever it is, if you think you've got a story to tell, then email me at kelleycakes@comcast.net and lay it on me!
Now the rules- I'm keeping these at a minimum because rules are no fun....
*Your wedding can take place any time during 2010.
*Your reception must take place within 30 miles of metro Denver to qualify for free delivery (you can certainly enter if you're outside of this area, but a delivery fee will be necessary)
*The cake can serve up to 100 guests. I'm pretty willing to fudge the numbers on this one if there is a fantastic design that requires a little more cake. Additional servings can be added at a very discounted rate.
*The cake can be more than one flavor and will be iced in buttercream. No limit to colors used, detailing and whatnot. Free cake does not have to be boring cake! Although I have nothing against the classic white wedding cake:)
That's about it, folks! Again, email me personally at kelleycakes@comcast.net your fabulous tale. The contest ends January 29th. The winner will be picked, emailed, blogged and raved about by the end of day January 30th.
